Mosquitoes thrive in densely vegetated, hot, and humid environments. People generally assume that mosquitoes are omnipresent in the Amazon jungle. But the truth is that there are fewer mosquitoes in certain regions of Amazon at certain times of the year.
The weather defines the presence of bugs and mosquitoes in the jungle. However, taking precautions is the best way to stay away from diseases while visiting the jungle.
Do not expose too much skin in the Amazon jungle as it can lead to rashes and mosquito bites. Try to wear clothes that cover your body entirely so that it forms a barrier between you and the mosquito. Wear a full sleeve shirt, trousers, track pants, and socks that cover your ankles. Invest in quality footwear like a pair of sturdy shoes. Avoid canvas shoes.
Focus on wearing thicker fabric like cotton which will help to prevent bites. Loose-fitted clothes will also make it next to impossible for the mosquito to contact your skin directly.
Insect repellents work the best to stay away from mosquitoes, especially in the early morning, evening, and night. Spray mosquito repellants on your clothes as well as they tend to bite through clothing also.
Wear light-colored clothes and not dark ones. We all have heard that mosquitoes are attracted to colors like black, brown, and dark blue. It is best to wear light colors as it will also keep the mosquito and heat away.
Mosquitoes get attracted to perfumes and strong smells like fragrance body products. Avoid using scents, body sprays, and talcums while planning a trip to the Amazon jungle.
Use mosquito nets if you have plans for camping for the night. It is always better to have an extra layer of protection in the form of mosquito nets. Check your destination if they provide it but it is always safe to carry your own.
Mosquitoes will bite you at one or the other point, no matter how hard you try to get rid of them. Go to a professional like your local doctor who will give you the proper medication that is required for the region that you are visiting for your trip.
Carry an antiseptic cream with you and apply it immediately to the affected area. Stay away from scratching it as it will cause more irritation and swelling in the affected area. Carry hydrocortisone cream to get relief from itching. Follow these tips and you are good to go!
