1 Day Inca Trail Machu Picchu

1 day Inca Trail Machu Picchu or the short Inca Trail is the best alternative to the classic four days Inca Trail Trek. This is ideal for those wanting to retrace the footsteps of Incas and visit Machu Picchu in a short time.

The full day trek from Cusco to Machu Picchu takes you through both prominent Inca sites, Intipunku (Sun Gate) and Wiñay Wayna. Often last minute bookers are unable to get Inca Trail permits.

The 500 years old trail tends to sell out 6-7 months in advance. This is because the trail is so popular that the authorities restrict the access to just 500 trekkers.

This is to protect the trail. This number includes guides, porters and cooks. So barely it leaves access to 200 hikers.

Hikers often look for the best alternative to compensate for the experience. We highly recommend the one day Inca trail. It requires no advance booking as the classic trail and it takes you through the iconic sites too. Moreover, you can get the best experience just in one day.

Machu Picchu Amazon Peru is one of the licensed Inca Trail tour operators in Cusco. We have dedicated local tour guides for this tour. They have an extensive knowledge about history. We aim to offer a memorable and a lifetime experience on this Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in 1 Day.

The highest point of the trek is at 2730 metres | 9007 ft. above sea level. We highly recommend you to spend at least 2 days in Cusco prior to the trek to avoid altitude sickness.

Itinerary

1 Day Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco between 0330 and 0400 AM. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you along the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo Train Station. From here we will be boarding the train to Km 104.

Km.104 is the starting point of the Short Inca Trail. It is named after its distance from Cusco to Machu Picchu. Here our guide will assist you in crossing the security point where your original passport will be verified against the permit.

Once inside, we will start a gradual uphill hike to Machu Picchu along the Urubamba river. The route offers enchanting views of the Andes. Our first stop will be in the archaeological complex named Wiñay Wayna. This in Quechua means, “Forever Young”.

Our local expert will be giving you a guided tour of the site. Then we will stop for lunch at the campsite.

After lunch, we will continue the trek to Inti Punku (Sun Gate). You will have the first view of Machu Picchu citadel from here. We will then be descending to the citadel. Once we arrive at Machu Picchu, our guide will be giving you a detailed two hours tour of the site.

On this tour, you will be visiting the main plaza, ceremonial centre, remains of Incan temples, farming terraces and more. After the tour, you will have some free time to explore the site on your own. Then we will be taking a bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes.

Here you will be boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. Our representative will be meeting you on arrival and will transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco.
