The 2 day Inca Trail popularly known as Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most preferred ways of experiencing the 500 years old trail when the permit to the Classic four days Inca Trail is sold out.
The trail offers a rewarding experience at every turn. This is more of a family friendly experience. With no long uphill multi day hikes or high mountain campsites, this is the easiest way to experience the best of Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.
The two days trek takes you through a region that is popular for the distinct flora and fauna. You will be covering a distance of twelve kilometers of the legendary Inca Trail in six hours. The short Inca trail offers a captivating view of Machu Picchu at sunset from Inti Punku (Sun Gate).
In order to maintain the trail, local authorities allow just 500 visitors a day. This includes porters, muleteers, chefs and guides so barely it leaves a place for just 200 hikers. Hence the permit often sells our 6 months in advance and last minute travellers are often left with no option apart from hiking the Salkantay Trek or Lares Trek.
If you are looking for the best alternative to the Classic Inca Trail, consider the short Inca trail. This requires no six months advance booking. Moreover it offers the highlights of the trail in an easier manner.
Machu Picchu Amazon Peru is one of the licensed tour operators in Peru to offer this experience. We are an excellent team of local experts with a passion for trekking and history. Join us to retrace the footsteps of Incas on two days Inca Trail.
The highest point of the trail is Inti Punku (Sun Gate) at 2730 metres above sea level. We highly recommend you to spend at least 2-3 days in Cusco before the trail to avoid altitude sickness.
