Tour Details

Full Day Sacred Valley Tour with Maras Moray gives you a complete overview of the Inca civilization. This is a popular day trip. It is highly recommended that you do this trip while you are acclimatising.

This full day tour is an extension to the classic tour of the sacred valley of the Incas. You will be visiting two prominent archaeological sites in addition, Maras Salt Mines and Moray Farming Terraces.

The tour starts with a visit to Chinchero and takes you to Maras Moray then to Pisac and Ollantaytambo. To make this more authentic, we will be stopping at a local restaurant in Urubamba where you can relish on an authentic Peruvian buffet lunch with options for vegans.

Chinchero:

Chinchero was developed as a summer palace by Pachacutec. He built many irrigation canals most of them are in use even today. Upon conquering Chinchero, the Spanish destroyed the royal palace and built a cathedral on its remains.

Chinchero has the most fertile soil in the whole of Sacred Valley of Incas. Local people here are popular for typical Andean handicrafts. They continue to practice the traditional weaving method.

Maras:

Maras is home to the salt terraces that are nestled on the side of a hill. These geometric shaped salt puddles have been in use since pre-Inca times.

The salt farmers here let in the natural spring waters into these puddles. These waters when evaporate leave behind crystals of salts which are scraped out manually. This is a traditional method that has been passed down in the line of succession, generation after generation.

Moray:

The site of Moray has been prominent since Inca civilization. The farming terraces were more like an agricultural laboratory to Incas. They are more like holes dug on the ground. The only difference, they have different levels.

It is said that each of these levels have different weather conditions. Infact, there is a difference of 15 degrees celsius from the top to the bottom of the terrace.

Ollantaytambo:

The village of Ollantaytambo demonstrates the Incas town planning. It is a charismatic village snuggled between two Inca ruins. The site of Ollantaytambo was sacred to Incas. When the Spanish invaded in 1537, this was transformed into a massive war zone.

Ollantaytambo boasts some of the impressive stonework. Most of these stones were transported from the nearby quarry in Cachicata. This is also the starting point of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Pisac:

The most prettiest sites in the Sacred Valley of Incas. Infact, the archaeological site of Pisac is just second to Machu Picchu. It nestles on a hilltop overlooking the valley. The complex houses many farming terraces, remains of Inca temples, ceremonial sites among others.

Pisac is also popular for its weekend market. Farmers and craftsmen from the nearby village gather here to sell their produce. If you are looking to buy some Peruvian souvenirs, then this is the place.
