Half Day Tour Lake Titicaca is ideal for those wanting to get an introduction to the life and culture of Uru people. Uros island tour is widely preferred by travellers who have a short time to spend in Puno Peru on their way to or from La Paz in Bolivia.
Uros floating islands are man made islands. People living on these islands are the earliest descendants of the inhabitants. The reed island and houses are entirely made of totora reeds that grow in the lake.
The main purpose of the floating island was to keep away any invaders. When the Uru people felt threatened by Incas or Spanish invaders, they used to cut off the island and float away. Eventually both Incas and Spanish conquistadors discovered them.
Now they practise the same thing but within themselves. When they feel threatened by their family members they float away elsewhere and start a new life. Uros islands are easily accessible from mainland Puno.
Among all the Lake Titicaca islands, Uros is the most visited one. If you are keen on knowing more about the Aymaras and the history and culture of Uru then check out our full day trip to Uros and Taquile Islands.
We also operate a two day tour of Lake Titicaca where you will be staying at a local family house for a night. On this tour you will visit all the three islands – Uros, Taquile and Amantani island.
We offer these tours in group and private tours.
Puno Hotel Transfer
0900 AM, 12 Noon and 0400 PM
We will be picking you up from your hotel in Puno. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you to the boat pier in Puno. Here you will be embarking on our motorised boat to sail on the world’s highest navigable lake.
It is a 25 minutes ride to Uros Islands. As we will be docking in, the local family would extend a warm welcome. Our guide will be explaining the life of the people here. The head of the family will then meet you and will demonstrate the process of building these islands.
The daily members will then walk you around the island and show you their traditions and customs. You will then have the option of embarking on a short ride on the reed boat. The locals charge 10 Soles for a short ride.
Once on the main island, you will be able to see the enormity of Lake Titicaca. From here we will return to Puno.
