Tour Details
Lake Sandoval Peru

Our Lake Sandoval Peru Tour programme is designed to offer you an insight of the captivating beauty of the Peruvian Amazon in a short time. Locally known as Lago Sandoval, this is an unmissable place in Tambopata National Reserve.

Lake Sandoval has a great biodiversity. Unlike Madre de Dios river, waters of Lake Sandoval are clear and calm. This makes it ideal for many animals to inhabit here. You will spot some hoatzins, family of giant otters, black caimans, different species of birds and butterflies here.

The two days trip is not just about immersing in the tranquility of the beautiful nature near Lake Sandoval. You will also experience a canopy walk and zip line.

The two days Lake Sandoval Programme with our local tour guide is designed to offer you the best of the Tambopata National Park in the Amazon rain forest

Why Machu Picchu Amazon Peru?

Machu Picchu Amazon Peru is a fully locally owned tour operator. We protect the endangered habitats in Tambopata for every tour booked with us which helps you offset your carbon emissions from travelling.

We also collaborate with the local communities deep in the lowland rainforest to overcome both social and economic challenges. All of our crew are locals. We support them by offering them opportunities as boat drivers, chefs and helpers.

Our excellent team of local guides are born and raised in Tambopata and are fluent in English. They are trained on first aid as safety is of utmost important to us.

Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado - Monkey Island - Canopy Walk

Upon reaching Puerto Maldonado, our crew will meet you at the airport or bus terminal and will be transferring you to our office. Here we will give you a quick introduction of our team who will be joining you on this 5 days Tambopata Tour.

You can also leave your belongings securely at our office while you are on tour. Once all set, we will transfer you to the boat pier. You will be taking a boat on Madre de Dios river for an hour to the eco lodge.

The hotel staff will extend a warm welcome to you with a local beverage as a welcome drink. After checking in , we will serve lunch. This will be a typical Amazonian meal.

We will then begin the Lake Sandoval Peru Tour by embarking on a boat ride to Monkey island. Here you will be able to witness a variety of monkeys. These include, Spider monkey, squirrel monkey, capuchin and more.

After this, we will do a canopy walk. It offers a breathtaking view of Tambopata National Reserve from tree top. Once you have had your fill of this, we will return to the lodge for dinner.

After dinner, we will do a short night walk to spot caimans and alligators.

Day 2Tambopata - Lake Sandoval - Puerto Maldonado

At day break, we will be going to see the parakeets and Parrots clay lick. Here, they ingest a typical clay rich in mineral salts which is essential to metabolise and neutralise the toxins they might have consumed from fruits and seeds.

Our local expert will be sharing more information about this. Once you have had your fill of the parrot’s clay lick, we will be returning to the lodge for breakfast.

After breakfast, we will be hiking for three kilometres crossing Madre de Dios river to Lake Sandoval. Here you will witness the rich biodiversity. You will see many animals and birds. We will then travel by boat further to get a closer look at these animals.

We will then stop for lunch in the reserve zone. After lunch, we will return to the lodge.

At around 0400 PM, we will be taking the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Our crew will be meeting at the boat pier to transfer you to the centre and onward to the airport or bus terminal.
