Moray Maras & Salt Mines Tour - Maras Moray

Moray Maras & Salt Mines Tour will give you an introduction to the Inca civilization. It takes you to two prime sites of the Sacred Valley of Incas, Salt Mines of Maras and farming terraces of Moray.

Maras salt flats have been in use since the pre Inca era. Locals here continue to practise the traditional method of extraction. The site is home to over a thousand geometric shaped puddles. They let in the natural spring water and wait for it to evaporate. Once it evaporates, it leaves behind crystals of salt which is manually scrapped out.

Moray has been a prominent agricultural site to Incas. The circular shaped terraces beat different temperatures at each level. The Incas experimented with different crops here. Thanks to this, Peru now produces over 800 varieties of potatoes and over five different types of corn.

Itinerary

Moray Maras & Salt Mines Tour

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 0830 AM. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you to Maras. Here our local expert will give you a detailed tour of the site and explain the salt processing method.

Due to government regulations visitors are restricted from walking around the salt puddles to control the contamination. However, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful view from the nearby viewpoint.

We will drive you to Moray. It is home to a series of farming terraces. These circular shaped terraces have played an important role in Inca civilization. Our local expert will show you around the complex and explain the significance of each site.

After the half day trip, we will be driving you back to Cusco.
