Tour Details

Although the five days tour to the Pyramids of Paratoari is not among the popular activities in Manu.

In 1976, NASA’s satellite photograph with number C-S11-32W071-03 showed a strange pyramid shaped formation amidst the lush tropical jungle in Southeast Peru near the banks of Madre de Dios river.

Don Montague, president of the South American explorers club believed that these were a natural geological phenomenon.

Later in 1996, Gregory Deyermenjian, a Peruvian explorer did an expedition to the Pyramids of Pantiacolla. He found plenty of evidence of Incas in that region. These included paved roads, petroglyphs and more.

He did an exhaustive research of the lost city and found out that these were not man made but were natural sandstone formations or the truncated ridge spurs.

The five days tour of Pyramids of Paratoari with our local English speaking native guide will show you the best of what the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest has to offer uncovering several mysteries.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Paradise Lodge

At day break, we will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. We will be driving you to Nincamarca. It is a small Andean town and home to funeral tombs of Lupaca civilization. Here our local guide will be explaining the significance of these tombs.

We will then be driving you to Paucartambo. It is a folkloric town where people are untouched by modernity and have preserved their age-old traditions. There is a beautiful colonial church in the town.

From here, we will be driving up the hill to Tres Cruces (Three Crosses). It is a viewpoint at 3900 metres above sea level. You will get a captivating view of the Amazon basin from here.

Then we will be descending to Manu Cloud Forest. In the afternoon, we will be touring the forest. On this tour, you will be able to spot the Peruvian National bird – Andean Cock of the rock. You will also be able to spot quetzals, different breeds of monkeys and if luck favours, the only spectacled bear of the continent, Tremarctos Ornatus.

In the evening, we will be reaching our jungle lodge in Manu National Park where you will be accommodated in an ensuite room.

Day 2Paradise Lodge - Inchipato River

After a typical Amazonian breakfast, we will embark on a drive to the Atalaya Port. Here we will be boarding our motorised boat for a ride on Madre de Dios river to our eco lodge in Palotoa community.

After picking up our gears that we will need for the next two days, we will start hiking through the virgin forest. This region is home to various species of animals, birds and plants.

We will stop on the shores of the river to swim in the crystal clear waters. Later in the evening we will do some fishing near our campsite.

Day 3Inchipato River - Pyramids Zone - Inchipato River

After breakfast, we will be travelling to the Pyramids. The route takes through the pristine region of the Amazon Rainforest. You will be spotting many animals, birds, plants and mammals on our way.

We will be stopping for lunch in an exclusive place along the river right in the middle of the rainforest. While our chef will be preparing your meal, you can take a dip in the fresh and clear waters.

Later in the afternoon, we will be reaching the Pyramids of Paratoari. Here our local expert will be giving a guided tour of the site. After the detailed tour, we will return to the campsite. Here we will set a campfire and sip-in some Peruvian Wine.

Day 4Inchipato River - Palotoa Lodge

After a typical breakfast, we will be sailing down the river on our traditionalnative balsa raft to Palotoa Campsite. You can spend the rest of your day relaxing on a hammock in our eco lodge with the sound of chirping birds.

Day 5Palotoa Amazon Lodge - Cusco

We will be waking up early in the morning and will be travelling back to Atalaya port. Here we will be meeting our driver for a transfer back to Cusco.
