Rainbow Mountain tour in Peru is one of the unmissable attractions in Cusco. Infact, it seconds to Machu Picchu on most traveller’s bucket list. Also known as Vinicunca, Rainbow Mountain attracts over 800 visitors a day.
The seven coloured mountain is a part of Ausangate Mountain range. The mountain was covered under dense snow. It was discovered early in 2016 when the snow started to melt and the colours started appearing. These colours are a result of mineral deposits.
The hike offers an enchanting sight of highland Andean farms and Alpacas and Llamas. As this is a high altitude trek, it is recommended to spend some time acclimatising in Cusco to avoid altitude sickness. To some this could be challenging, in this case, you can jump on a horse back from the base camp for an additional cost.
The best time to hike the Rainbow Mountains of Cusco is during the dry season which is from March to November. However, the best time of the year to visit is between June and August.
