Sacred Valley Bike Tour Details

Sacred Valley Bike Tour is a popular half day trip from Cusco. Accompanied by our professional guide we will be offering you a lifetime experience of two prime sites of the Sacred Valley of Incas – Archaeological Site of Moray and Pre Inca salt pools in Maras.

Both Maras and Moray have been prominent to Incas. We will be driving you to Cruz Pata, it is a small village. From here we will be experiencing the best of the scenic valley on a mountain bike.

Maras:

The town of Maras is prominent for the salt terraces. These terraces are nestled on one side of a hill. This is one of the most photographed sites in the Sacred Valley. The salt terraces have existed since Pre Inca times.

It has been passed down from generation to generation. Locals here still practise the traditional salt farming methods as their ancestors. They practice the traditional Solar Evaporation Method.

Through small aqueducts, they let in the natural spring waters to the geometric shaped puddles. They then wait for the water to evaporate and manually scrape out the crystals of salts.

Moray:

Farming terraces of Moray is another prominent site. This was like an agricultural laboratory to Incas. The site houses a series of circular farming terraces with different levels.

Each level bears a different temperature. There is a difference of 15 degrees celsius from the top to the bottom.

The Incan farmers experimented with the growth conditions of crops here. This is the result Peru now produces over 800 types of potatoes and over 5 different types of corn.

We highly recommend experiencing Maras and the Inca farming complex of Moray while acclimatising in Cusco. Not only this tour will offer a tour of the scenic countryside of Cusco, you will also get to know a lot about the history of Incas before visiting Machu Picchu.

You can also experience Maras and Moray on an ATV- Quad Bike tour or a Classic Half Day Tour.

Itinerary

Sacred Valley Bike Tour

We begin the half day bike tour of Maras Moray by picking you up from your respective hotel in Cusco at 0800 AM. Then in our private transport we will be driving you to Cruz Pata. This will be a short drive of 50 minutes. The route offers an enchanting view of Chinchero.

Once in Cruz Pata, our crew will hand you over the bikes and gears. You will then have some time to get used to the bikes. Once all set, we will begin with a gradual downhill ride through Andean farms towards Huaypo Lagoon.

We will be crossing many farms of potato, quinoa, wheat, corn and more. Our guide will be leading the group and the van will be trailing behind. If anyone feels sick or finds it difficult to bike, they can ride in the van.

Once in the archaeological site of Moray, we will give you a guided tour of the site. Here you will discover how the Incas were dedicated to farming. After the tour, we will visit the main square where we will stop to relish our snack box.

We will then continue the experience by biking further to Maras. Here we will be visiting the salt mines where our guide will give you a tour of the site. Here you will discover how the salt farmers extract salt using traditional methods.

After the experience, we will be riding the bikes to Pichingoto where we will be handing over the bikes back and taking the van back to Cusco.
