The South Valley Tour in addition with the Sacred Valley VIP tour gives a complete understanding to Inca civilization. South Valley Tour Cusco is a half day tour that takes you to three archaeological sites to the south of Cusco.
Tipon, Pikillaqta and Church of Andahuaylillas are often overlooked by travelellers. These sites were quite significant to Incas and Wari Culture (Pre Incas).
Tipon:
It is a small farming village in the south of Cusco. Tipon is home to an archeological site that nestles on a hilltop overlooking the valley. The site boasts an impressive irrigation system built by Incas. There is also a royal garden.
The village is typically famous among locals for guinea pig meat (cuy). Infact, locally it is known as the cuy capital of the region.
Pikillacta:
This is a Pre-Incan ruin. The Waris were the first ones to settle here. It boasts an impressive Wari architecture which is very distinct from that of Incas. Unlike most Inca sites, Pikillacta does not have any aqueducts. The nearest lake is a kilometre away from the site. It is the only source of water.
When archaeologists excavated the site, they found many bones which were from sacrifices. They also found many stones which had carvings of Maize along with their deities. Maize was an important crop to Waris.
Sistine Chapel of America -Andahuaylillas:
This is a pretty village located far south from the city of Cusco. The white washed church may seem unattractive from outside but its interiors are jaw dropping.
We are a local tour operator based in Cusco. Our team comprises qualified English speaking local guides. They are born and raised in Cusco. They have a wealth of knowledge about the sites, some only a handful of locals know about.
