The four days Lake Sandoval Peru Tour is one of the best Tambopata Tours. It has the reputation of being the most environmentally diverse region in the Amazon jungle.
Tambopata National Park is home to stunning oxbow lakes and macaw clay licks. It is the largest natural clay lick in the country. On this Lake Sandoval Peru tour, you can be certain to spot vibrantly colored macaws and parrots who fly to the cliffs to feed on the clay-rich in mineral salts.
Many environmentalists have mentioned that the Tambopata Reserved Zone’s diversity in wildlife is because of its location. It is located at the confluence of low land Amazon Rainforest and three other ecosystems.
Tambopata National Reserve houses some 13 endangered species. This includes giant otters, jaguars, giant armadillos, and harpy eagles.
Machu Picchu Amazon Peru is a reputed organized tour operator in Tambopata. We protect the endangered habitats in Tambopata for every jungle tour booked with us. This helps you offset your carbon emissions from traveling.
We also collaborate with the local communities deep in the lowland rainforest to overcome both social and economic challenges. All of our crew on Tambopata Adventure tours are locals. We support them by offering them opportunities as boat drivers, chefs, and helpers.
Our excellent team of local guides are born and raised in Tambopata and are fluent in English. They are trained in first aid as safety is of utmost importance to us.
Our local experts will be offering you many insights into the culture and wildlife conservation in your Tambopata Amazon Expedition. We work with some of the notable jungle lodges to offer you a comfortable stay during the experience.
Puerto Maldonado Airport
Depending on your flight’s arrival time
Our crew will be picking you up from Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal. We will stop by our office in the city of Puerto Maldonado so you can leave your belongings and carry just what will be needed for the four days Tambopata Adventure.
We will then drive you to the Puerto Capitana boat pier where you will be taking a motorized boat for an hour’s scenic ride on Madre de Dios river.
Along the tour, you will be able to spot different species of birds, turtles, monkeys, alligators, river otters, and more. We will have a brief stop at the Lake Sandoval checkpoint where we will be registering your visit.
We will hike for five kilometers to the boat pier of Lake Sandoval here which normally takes an hour and a half. Here we will be embarking on a 50-minute ride on our rowing canoe to Sandoval Lake Lodge.

Later in the evening, we will be returning to our lodge.
We will be leaving from the lodge early in the morning to see Macaw Palm Tree Lick. The lodge is located in the heart of Tambopata National reserve, so we won’t be spending much of the time traveling. The clay lick is right around the lodge.
Here you will get to see different brightly colored Macaws and Parrots. These birds eat the palms as they are rich in a nutrient that helps them to flush out any toxins from their body.
After witnessing this incredible sight, we will be returning to the lodge. The crew will be serving you a nutritious breakfast.
After breakfast, we will embark on a hike to see different native flora and faunas, most distinct to the region.
You will also see different species of monkeys, wild boars, deers, spectacled bears, tapirs, and more. For lunch, we will return to the lodge. After lunch, you will have some free time to take a dip in the clear waters of Lake Sandoval.
Later in the evening, we will embark on a rowing canoe to the other side of the lake to witness the sunset. At around 0700 PM, we will be returning to the lodge for dinner.

Macaws Clay Lick is an unmissable sight in the Amazon. Several brightly colored Macaws and parrots fly here. They lick a typical clay, rich in mineral salts which is essential to metabolize and neutralize the toxins they might have consumed from fruits and seeds.
We will be there from 0630 am to 1130 am. We will be serving breakfast right in front of the clay lick.
After this activity, on our way back to the lodge, we will be making a brief stop at the checkpoint. Here we will e visiting a small museum. We will then return to the lodge where you can take a refreshing dip in the clear waters.
In the afternoon, we will be taking the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Our representative will be waiting for us at the boat pier and will be transferring you to the airport or bus terminal.
After walking in and out of many tour companies in Cusco, we decided to travel to Tambopata with Machu Picchu Amazon Peru. Richard the person who sold us the tour was very friendly and informative. He had one of their representatives to pick us up from the Puerto Maldonado airport as we landed.
Saul was our guide and his knowledge and awareness of the animals and plants was astonishing. It was very easy to spot them as he knew when was the right time, we saw many distinct animals like Tapirs, Jaguars and Monkeys.
The lodges that Machu Picchu Amazon accommodated us were comfortable and the staff there cooked delicious local cuisine.
We would surely consider Machu Picchu Amazon Peru if we plan out trip to Peruvian Amazon again in future
Machu Picchu Amazon Peru offered us 4 unforgettable days of our Latin American trip. Amazon jungle is vast and it was a very positive time spent with their guide and whole team. We spotted many animals and the lodge we were put in was very comfortable. Extremely convinced with the trip and the treatment we received. A must do!
This place is really out of the world. Amazon Rainforests are massive and there are many hidden gems here. We were lucky to spot many animals including Tapirs, leopards, cheetahs and more. The guide as a local knew a lot and it was very easy to spot animals with him. He also has an immense knowledge about the plants and flowers those are typical to the region. The lodges were very cozy and comfortable. I was picked up and dropped off to the airport in Puerto Maldonado. Felt very safe and comfortable and highly recommend this company
